If you've finished reading the prior posts about losing weight, you'll have noticed that record keeping is important.
All important things in your life require record keeping.
What you eat should be no different if your weight has gone out of control.
If you refuse to keep accurate records at the bank, guess what? You'll end up having to take responsibility for what happens to your bank balance, and it can be quite painful.
If you refuse to keep accurate records about what you put into your mouth, guess what? You'll end up reading this advice because your weight is out of control.
GET A BLOOD PROFILE
Your physical 'bank account" is made up of three factors:
1) your blood profile
2) your eating habits
3) your exercise habits
Check your blood profile, using the best test you can afford.
Make sure your thyroid functions well.
Make sure you're not "hypothyrididc" with a GOOD blood test that shows ALL the related values
Check cholesterols -- good and bad -- and triglyceride levels.
Check your potassium level, your blood pressure, the health of your heart.
If you are among those unfortunate Americans who can't get this done, a victim of the cruel system that says only people who can buy it can get good health care, it's even more important to be very careful about what you eat.
Overweight is a result of eating too many 'things' that masquerade as real food, but are not. Cheap ice cream, for example, when allowed to dry out on a surface, is likely to resemble plastic. Consider sugar and salt as items that are basically poisonous. What grows in sugar? Nothing.
Things masquerading as food that contain preservatives and flavor enhancers such as MSG have been created to make lots of money for the manufacturer, because they keep a long time and will taste 'good' no matter how poor the original ingredients might have been.
You will do your family a favor by making a rule that nothing but real food comes into your home. If your family wants pizza -- fine--they can go out and eat it. But I guarantee that if you begin cooking and serving delicious, real food, they'll make such trips out less often.
Here's where you should be, if you're following this advice:
1) you are weighing yourself every day, preferably at the same time. Do not be discouraged with weight fluctuations. You'll learn more about your natural rhythms this way.
2) You eat forbidden things only in the presence of others, outside your home, and you stick to just ONE (if it's cheeseburgers, have as many as you like, but no coke, no milkshake, no fries...if it's fries you crave, no burgers, no coke, no milkshake! Got it? You can have ONE forbidden thing--and all you want of it.
(hint: as you start losing weight, chances are, you will starT getting better control of this)
3) You will not bring your favorite things masquerading as food into your home.
A GOOD RULE OF THUMB: IF IT HAS MORE THAN 300 CALORIES PER 100 GRAMS, DON'T EAT IT. DON'T LET IT INTO THE HOUSE. (BUT YOU CAN HAVE OLIVE OIL AND SMALL AMOUNTS OF BUTTER THAT YOU NEED FOR GOOD HEALTH, AND TO MAKE FOOD TASTE GOOD)
NOW YOU ARE READY FOR THE NEXT STEP:
3) USE A GOOD CALORIE COUNTER, AND KEEP A GOOD RECORD. FOR ME, TO LOSE WEIGHT, I HAVE TO STICK TO 1200 CALORIES. IF I EAT ABOUT 1600 CALORIES A DAY AND DO NOT EXERCISE THAT DAY, I WILL GAIN WEIGHT.
HERE IS ONE I RECOMMEND (IT TAKES A LITTLE PRACTICE TO USE IT):
REMEMBER, CHEATING IS CHEATING AGAINST YOURSELF.

PRINT OUT YOUR FINAL SCORE EVERY DAY.
HINTS ON STICKING TO YOUR DIET:
DO NOT CALL IT A DIET! IT'S A NEW LIFESTYLE!
1) I GO ON THE ATKINS DIET FOR TEN DAYS....FOR ME, THIS STRIPS OFF EXCESS FLUIDS AND
THEN, WHATEVER I ADD, IT SEEMS HEAVENLY GREAT AND DELICIOUS!
2) AFTER TEN DAYS, I ADD A FAVORITE CARB DISH, SUCH AS A HELPING OF PASTA OR TWO TORTILLAS,
AND A PIECE OF FRESH FRUIT. FOR THOSE WHO LIKE WINE, MAYBE THAT'S WHAT YOU'D LIKE.
3) WHEN HUNGRY, DRINK WATER, OR CHEW GUM!
THE BIG CHANGE:
COME ON, YOU KNOW THE CUPBOARDS HAVE THOSE 'THINGS' IN THEM!
COOKIES, CANDY, CHOCOLATE...
IN THE REFRIGERATOR, LEFTOVER CAKE, OR.... AND THERE'S ALWAYS BREAD, AND BUTTER...RICE, AND ALL THAT WHITE STUFF I TOLD YOU MUST NOT GET INTO YOUR MOUTH....IF IT'S WHITE AND COMES FROM SOME KIND OF FLOUR, YOU CAN;T HAVE IT! NOT UNTIL YOU HIT YOUR TARGET GOAL! AND THEN, JUST ONE HELPING.
IF YOU GAIN THREE POUNDS, GO BACK TO THE ATKINS DIET, OR BACK TO THE PRE-PASTA (OR WHATEVER) PERIOD AND ADD MORE EXERCISE.
NEVER GAIN ORE THAN THREE POUNDS.
NOW, BACK TO ALL THAT STUFF ILLEGALLY LABELED AS 'FOOD' THAT NO SELF-RESPECTING HUMAN SHOULD HAVE EVER BEEN TRAINED TO EAT:
OUT IT INTO SACKS AND GIVE IT AWAY--TO CHARITY, TO A CHURCH, TO A HOMELESS HSELTER, WHATEVER!
THEY NEED THE CALORIES!
YOU DO NOT!
AND KEEP IT OUT OF THE HOUSE!

YOU CAN HAVE BARBECUES--JUST SAY AWAY FROM THE WHITE STUFF!

IF IT'S CHOCOLATE YOU CRAVE, YUOU CAN, SAY, HAVE A NICE SALAD WITH YOUR FRIENDS, AND A CHOCOLATE BAR...BUT TOSS OUT WHATEVER YOU DON'T EAT BEFORE YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR! (YES, YOUR CAR COUNTS AS 'YOUR HOME'--THAT'S WHY YOU ARE FORBIDDEN TO EAT AT ANY DRIVE-THROUGH ESTABLISHMENTS--EVER!).
IT WILL WORK IF YOU'RE SERIOUS ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT.
I'VE KEPT MY WEIGHT STEADY FOR TWO YEARS NOW AND HAVE JUST EMBARKED ON A SECOND ROUND
OF WEIGHT-LOSS, AS I STILL HAVE 30 POUNDS TO GO TO GET TO THE WEIGHT LEVEL I ONCE ENJOYED BEFORE HAVING FIVE CHILDREN. MY PROBLEM HAS BEEN LOOSE SKIN. I'D LOOK EVER SO MUCH THINNER IF IT WEREN'T FOR THAT! BUT I FEEL MUCH, MUCH BETTER.
